Sun Life Stadium (formerly Dolphin Stadium) is one of the most prestigious venues in all of sports. The stadium was built in 1987, and was originally called Joe Robbie Stadium, after the primary private sponsor for the stadium. It was designed with the hopes to be used as a baseball stadium as well, for a possible expansion franchise to the Miami area. These hopes were realized in 1991 when Florida was awarded the expansion Marlins, who began play in 1993. The maximum seating capacity of Landshark Stadium is just over 76,000 for football, and just over 38,000 for baseball, as a large number of seats are not used in the upper deck of the stadium.
In addition to serving as home to the Miami Dolphins,Miami Hurricanes and the Florida Marlins, Landshark Stadium has been the host of various Super Bowls and World Series. Both the 1997 and 2003 World Series, along with four Super Bowls took place at Sun Life Stadium with last one being in 2010 when the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI. Sun Life Stadium is also the current location for the Orange Bowl of the Bowl Championship Series.
