The Preakness Stakes will celebrate their 152nd anniversary running of this incredible horse race. This year the race will return to Pimlico Race Course after undergoing a massive renovation. In 1870, the first Preakness was held at the opening of the Pimlico Race Course. Since then, it has grown to become one of the races in the coveted Triple Crown of Racing. The winning horse in the Preakness will be draped in a blanket of Black-Eyed Susan flowers, a tradition since 1940. The race has been run on the third Saturday in May since the 1930's.

This second leg of the triple crown is also known as "The Run for the Black-eyed Susans" because the winner is adorned with a blanket of the Black-eyed Susans (State Flower of Maryland). The Preakness is a very popular horse racing event that only ranks second in attendance to the Kentucky Derby. This year a whole new group of thoroughbreds look to claim their Preakness title.
