The Belmont Stakes
The Belmont Stakes returns on June 11, 2011 to Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. This race is the third and final leg of the Triple Crown and normally the most challenging because of the length of the giant lap at Belmont Park. The Belmont Stakes can be the site of a Triple Crown winner if a Thoroughbred can manage to win both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. The last Triple Crown winner (Secretariat, 1973) also happens to hold the speed and margin of victory record at the Belmont Stakes. Last year the winning three year old was Drosselmeyer and his jockey was Mike Smith respectively. There has always been plenty of action at the finale of the Triple Crown and the 143rd running of the event should prove no different.
