2008 Beijing Olympics Blog

- September 02, 2008
Back home and guess what? You can't blog in China! The government doesn't trust blogs so they block them from being accessed and viewed. So we weren't able to blog while we were onsite but I have posted a great picture of our onsite team. Thanks to all of our clients for their business and we really enjoyed meeting all of you. See you in Vancouver....
And we have been getting a few pin requests from people wanting them for their collections. We still have a few left so if you want a Sports Traveler official Olympic Trading Pin please send a self addressed stamped envelope to:

- July 24, 2008I'm heading to the Olympics next week and one of the great traditions that I am looking forward to taking part in is the Olympic Pin exchange. I am planning on collecting pins from around the world from fellow sports travelers and displaying them here at our Chicago office. I can't think of a better souvenir. So that got us talking here... how can our clients and staff start exchanging pins if we have no pins to start the exchange with? We know there will be plenty of pins to buy when we get there but they won't be anything related to us. So we created the first ever Sports Traveler Summer Games Trading Pin! If you purchased a travel package you will get some in your final document package to use to start your own pin collection with the world. See you in Beijing. Read this article I found online about more pin trading information....See you in Beijing!

Just a quick Sports Traveler Radio update... the Beijing Preview Part 3 podcast and it is available for download now. Find it at http://www.sportstraveler.net/custom/sports_traveler_radio_STR.html or listen online using the podplayer. The show is one of my favorite STR's yet. Angelo also interviews our friend Adam Dailey, a former US track and field star and owner of Ludus Tours. Adam took time out from watching the US Track and Field Olympic trials to talk to us. It's a great interview. Thanks Adam! I'm working on getting some new pictures from Beijing online soon.
I can't believe how time is flying. I will be back in Beijing in just a few weeks. I'm looking forward to meeting all our clients in person and seeing the events. If you still want to join Sports Traveler in Beijing it is not too late. We have some excellent last minute trips ready to book. Visit http://www.sportstraveler.net/custom/olympics.html for all the details.

I have just returned from a week long preview trip of Beijing for the upcoming Olympic Games. It was truly the best trip of my life - and trust me, I have been on a lot of trips. But Beijing is by far the most interesting place I've seen. I wanted to take a moment to write on our Sports Traveler Blog to let everyone know about some of the great sights that I saw as I previewed our tours for the upcoming Olympics in August.
Our onsite partners for this event are fantastic. Already, they have everything planned and are ready for our Sports Traveler clients to arrive. I previewed our tours to the Great Wall and I took a tour of the Forbidden City. I even took a Hutong Tour and had tea with an older Chinese couple in their home - something that I think everyone should make time to go do.
The scene in Beijing is something special. It's modern and old world. Crowded yet you will find peaceful parks to sit and relax. The food is excellent. I have many restaurant selections that I will list on

I am very excited to release our newest Summer Games travel packages dedicated to follow Soccer (Futbol) through China during the 2008 Olympic Games. When you look at the soccer schedule for the 2008 Beijing Gamesit almost looks like a mini-World Cup as the rounds travel through the different cities in China. The Sports Traveler Staff has created a package to catch the most important matches leading up to the Gold Medal games in Beijing.
We start out in Shanghai on August 15th. Our staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the Holiday Inn Shanghai, a 4-star hotel. On the 16th we take you on a City Tour of Shanghai. That night the soccer action begins with the Men's Quarterfinal Match at the Shanghai Stadium. On the 17th we do a little more touring of the Suzhou area and see the Master of Nets Garden along with a canal cruise. On the 18th we head back to the stadium for the important Women's Semifinal Match. On the 19th we are there for the Men's Semifinal Match to see who
