US Bank Stadium- Minneapolis, MN
US Bank Stadium was opened in 2016 and is the new home of the Minnesota Vikings. The Stadium is a closed roof structure with a seating capacity of over 66,000. For large scale events such as the Super Bowl, the capacity can max out near 73,000 occupants. US Bank Stadium will play host to Super Bowl LII and the 2019 Final Four.
Design:
US Bank Stadium was designed with a closed roof design to allow for the stadium to be able to host large scale events such as a Super Bowl or Final Four Tournament. The roof was given its unique slanted design to help assist with snow removal during the Winter months. The slanted rooftop allows for snow to slide off the building and avoid accumulating to dangerous levels.
The glass paneling and roof of the building allow for large amounts of natural light to enter the building, while also exhibiting the iconic Minneapolis skyline to spectators. The natural light also acts as a green and cost effective measure since it reduces the need for electrical lighting during day events and games.
US Bank Stadium was constructed to marvel the previous Metrodome, and the building certainly does so with a height of nearly 30 stories. As well, the new US Bank Stadium is roughly twice the size of the Metrodome at about 1,750,000 sq. ft. The new stadium also will feature a state of the art wireless internet connection for spectators and a brand new Vikings Hall of Legends!
