Bank of America Stadium – Charlotte, NC
Carolina Panthers
Established in 1993, the Carolina Panthers have been the NFL’s Charlotte, NC based franchise. The team first competed at a professional level at Clemson University while awaiting the completed construction of Bank of America Stadium. Upon the stadium’s completion in 1996, Bank of America Stadium has been home to the Caroline Panthers.
Through the franchise’s 22 year history featured numerous NFL greats including Julius Peppers, Steve Smith, and Wesley Walls. Currently the team has one former player, Reggie White, and one general manager, Bill Polian, in the NFL Hall of Fame.
The Panthers have only made one Super Bowl appearance which was in 2003. The Panthers lost the game to the New England Patriots, led by quarterback Tom Brady. The 2003 Panthers roster featured notable fan favorites in Jake Delhomme, Julius Peppers, and Jordan Gross.
Bank of America Stadium
First opened on September 14, 1996, Bank of America Stadium became a premiere NFL destination in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The stadium cost $248 million to construct and currently seats 75,413 spectators. The stadium is owned solely by the Carolina Panthers, putting them with only a small handful of teams in the league that own the stadium they reside in.
Notable events hosted out of Bank of America Stadium are the Belk Bowl and ACC Championship game. The stadium has also been used for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and a Rolling Stones concert during the Bridges to Babylon Tour. Without a doubt the versatility of the building cannot be understated.
Recent renovations to the stadium have included the installation of new HD video boards and two 360-degree ribbon video boards that run across the interior of the stadium. As recently as 2015, the Panthers have renovated all 158 of its luxury suites, and increased total seating capacity for the stadium.
Downtown Charlotte, NC
The city of Charlotte, North Carolina is steeped in history dating all the way back to the Revolutionary War! A lot has changed in the city since then, but the beauty and culture of this southern metropolis continues to thrive. Famed local institutions include the Levine Center for the Arts, which exhibits notable pieces of post-Civil War history.
Local things to do in the area include shopping at SouthPark Mall which is home to the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra during the Summer months. The mall also boats numerous high end dining and shopping options for local visitors.
The Panthers are not the only professional sports team in the city of Charlotte. Other notable teams in the area include the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets and the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. Another famed sports venue in the city is Charlotte Motor Speedway which hosts NASCAR’s Bank of America 500, Coca-Cola 600, and All-Star Race. The city is a true high-octane destination for the most avid of sports fans.
