“The Great American Race” kicks off the NASCAR series each year in February.  It is the biggest, most prominent stock car race in the nation.  NASCAR (the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing) has grown over the years and gained popularity from all over the United States.   The biggest race comes first in NASCAR.  This is a unique quality in sports, but the Daytona 500 gets the race fans revved up and ready for the season by starting off with a bang.  All the racers start off with all of their energy at this big event.         

This event is fast paced, with drivers traveling around 200 mph.  There is nonstop action which creates great entertainment and excitement for all spectators.  It all started because of a man known as “Big Bill” France.  France was a mechanic who not only worked on cars, but loved to race them.  In 1955 he presented the idea of constructing the Daytona Beach Motor Speedway.   The first official Daytona 500 race was held not long after that in 1959.    

Of all NASCAR races, this is the one with the best location, Daytona Beach.  Not only do you get to experience the best race, but you get a view of the ocean, palm trees, and everything else that beautiful Daytona has to offer.
