Project Omaha: 2012 College World Series

Well its that time of year again.  MLB spring training is running rampant through Florida and Arizona, and the college kids are just hitting their stride in the young season.  The 2012 season is only a few weeks old but teams are already gearing up for their run to College World Series in Omaha, NE.  Take a look at the latest poll from USA Today:

1. Florida
2. Stanford

3. South Carolina
4. Rice
5. Texas A&M
6. Arkansas
7. North Carolina
8. Florida State
9. Georgia Tech
10. Oregon
11. Arizona
12. Georgia
13. Miami (Fla.)
14. Cal State-Fullerton
15. LSU
16. UCLA
17. Mississippi
18. Oklahoma
19. Clemson
20. Louisville
21. California
22. Gonzaga
23. Mississippi St.
24. Central Florida
25. Baylor

Still early in the season but its hard not to start thinking about the 2012 College World Series.  Through the first dozen or so games it looks like Florida might be the team to beat this year but don't count out the 2-time defending champion South Carolina Gamecocks.

The Gators have never won a NCAA national championship on the diamond, but they finished runner-up last year and in 2005.

As you look at the top 25 there are several teams that feature talented rosters full of major league prospects but only one of them can be champion.  Starting June 14th, the field of what was once 64 will descend on TD Ameritrade Park to compete as the final 8 in the 2012 College World Series.  For baseball fans everywhere, including myself, the College World Series is always exciting and it provides some of the greatest clutch moments in sports.

Feeling left out?  Join in on action this year!  Start your summer with a trip to the 2012 College World Series.
