If you have not been to a tennis event, I would personally recommend the US Open.  It is very easy to get to Arthur Ashe Stadium from any area in New York.  You can take the #7 train towards Queens and drops you off right behind the stadium (also in front of Citi Field, home of the New York Mets).  After a very short walk over the bridge, you will arrive at the stadium. Arthur Ashe Stadium is located on Flushing Meadows Park, which was the site of the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fair. Many monuments are still up from these events including the famous unisphere.
