Important Notes

The U.S. and Mexico will both be in POT 3 despite very different results leading up to the World Cup.  Mexico has been consistently viewed has the best that North America has to offer.  Fortunes have changed lately and the U.S. will go into the World Cup as the top representative of CONCACAF.

Mexico is just 10-7-8 in international play during 2013 and fell over backwards into the World Cup.  Their last 2 wins to qualify came against a less than good New Zealand team that failed to make the field.  Not making the World Cup would have been a travesty in Mexico.  They lucked out but they need to play better to have any hopes to advance to elimination rounds of the tournament.

The U.S. team has played great and now has their highest hopes in a long time.  Jurgen Klinsmann has this team operating on all cylinders.  They have posted a 16-4-3 record in 2013.  Ten of those game were World Cup qualifying games and the U.S. managed 7 wins against 2 losses and just 1 draw.  They also swept the Gold Cup in surprising fashion.  The U.S. men's team has a lot of momentum heading into the winter.  We still don't know the ceiling for this team.

Things are uncertain across the pond as well but the tone is much less positive.  England finds themselves in POT 4 and will likely face an uphill battle to make it out of the group stage.  They did not take a loss in World Cup qualifying games but their fate would not hold good fortune.  England will always be considered a contender but their journey will be a very tough one in 2014.

Waiting Room

For now we sit and wait.  It won't be long but the vision will not be entirely clear for another 2 weeks.  Be patient we are almost there.

Who do you think will make it to the final in Rio?
